The everlasting Tuk-Tuk Hua Kob: Motorized Tricycle taking you around Trang
Today the Tuk–Tuk Hua Kob, or motorized tricycle (which means a tricycle with its front part shaped like a frog’s head) has become a classic symbol of Trang. Whoever visits Trang will definitely wish to see a Tuk-Tuk Hua Kob, which is converted from a small pick-up tricycle with its back part turned into a double-rowed seat area for passengers.
The tricycle has been a part of the lives of Trang residents for more than 60 years. It was imported from Japan during World War II, arriving by cargo train at the terminal station in Kantang in a batch of more than 700 units. Less than 200 units remain today. The Tuk-Tuk Hua Kob adds color to Trang City, attracting travelers who love to put their luggage on the roof and ride around town.
Some Tuk-Tuk Hua Kob’s take travelers from Trang Railway Station to hotels or guest houses. Others take travelers around the downtown area of Trang. As a traveler who has arrived in Trang, you should not miss riding a Tuk-Tuk Hua Kob around the city. Advanced reservation for a city tour is recommended. Simply call the Association of Motorized Tricycles of Trang where three choices of itinerary are available for you.
